"Everything went so well! I love you Kate! Thank you for coming to see me in the hospital. I liked your personality and the affordability of everything. The personal attention was key for me. I just felt more at ease and like I was being proactive for myself by taking these pills."
From the first time I met Kate, it was apparent that she was knowledgeable and passionate about her work to help women transition from pregnancy into motherhood. Her kindness,, and sense of humor put me at ease immediately. I had lots of questions and she answered them all with an openness that I really respect... It meant a lot to me to know that I was doing everything I could to help my body recover from the amazing work it did in carrying and then birthing my son. I love the idea of using every resource available to me in my recovery and what better resource then my own placenta?!
We were dealing with our first birth and didn't know what to expect. You helped us to realize some of the challenges we might face and how to handle them. My husband and I chose to hire you because you indicated a sense of calm and humor from your website. You were calm. That's what we wanted and that's what we got! You truly helped us to understand that even though we had a plan, it may not come to fruition (which the path didn't, but the outcome, yes). You also helped us realize that at the end of it all, we had a voice in what happened regardless of what you said, the midwives said, or the nurses said. You always provided us multiple perspectives that allowed us to make the best decisions for us without judgement. You asked really good questions prior to going into labor...like the type of birth we wanted, how we'd react in different situations, etc... that made us think about things we wouldn't have thought about had we not met with you. So our return on investment? Worth every penny.
The birth of our daughter, Noor Isadora, was the most intense, extraordinary, marvelous and miraculous experience of our lives. I was sure that I wanted to give birth naturally: as free to move about as possible and no drugs or interventions unless it was absolutely medically necessary. Throughout my reading of other women's stories and listening to the childbirth experiences of my dear friends, I realized that the best way to stay true to my intentions was to work with a doula. We were delighted to meet Kate and find out that she was available to assist around my due date.
Kate carries a natural, sincere energy that we connected with immediately. She was there for us on a consistent basis from the day we met her, and continued to provide her warm, caring advice even months after Noor's birth. She radiates a kindness that is so welcome during those months of emotionally charged hormonal changes, and provides a solid sense of assurance when everything seems so foreign and mysterious. Knowing that Kate would be there for us on the day I went into labor calmed our fears and allowed us to embrace the monumental changes that were just on the horizon!
On the day I went into labor, Kate was there for us all the way. She came to our home and helped me labor as long as I wanted to -- comforting and coaching me while at the same time giving me all the space I needed. She got into the nitty gritty that I didn't even know could happen, like holding my hair back as I vomited (and other unmentionables!). She also provided a sense of order to the chaos of our minds during those exciting but scary hours. Kate displayed a levelheadedness throughout the experience that let me concentrate solely on my number one responsibility of getting through the contractions, and she gave me the companionship and support above and beyond what the midwives and nurses were willing or able to provide.
Kate is an amazing woman, mother, doula and friend. We couldn't have been happier with our choice of Kate as our doula for the birth of our daughter Noor Isadora. And if we have another baby, there is no one we would rather have accompany us on our journey than Kate!

Kate’s gentle, warm energy was such an integral piece of my birth story that I simply cannot imagine it without her. She reminded me of my original vision for birth, helped us ask the right questions of ourselves and our medical care team, and seamlessly worked alongside my husband and me in the decision making process.
I often tell people my daughter’s birth was nothing like I’d imagined and yet everything as I’d imagined. Kate is a key reason I’m able to look back so positively on the experience.
I will always remember rocking on my bed, tearfully staring into Kate’s eyes as I acknowledged I was too tired from a long early labor to welcome my baby in the peaceful, strong emotional state I had hoped for. Rather than sticking to the original plan of an unmedicated birth, she helped me make the empowered decision to let the functional aspects of an unmedicated birth go so I could emotionally welcome my baby and enter motherhood as I’d hoped.
I simply cannot recommend working with Kate enough.
"I met Kate Tyo at a home birth meet up. I loved her energy and presence immediately! When i found out she encapsulated placentas, which i knew i wanted, I checked out her website and was impressed with her thorough information and attention to sanitation details. It also made me feel comfortable that she had her own home births and had used her own placenta pills with good results. She was so courteous after birth when she came to pick up the placenta and then a couple days later when she dropped off the pills. She understood and encouraged me staying in bed during her short visits and was respectful of our quiet home environment. I am so pleased we chose to work with Kate! One thing Kate offers is a tincture made out of part of the placenta which can be used later in life. The tincture made the total purchase feel worth the cost, knowing that i would get benefits for years to come if need be. I've been so thankful to have my placenta pills for days when i am low on energy or am feeling like an emotional wreck. They have definitely prevented me from flying off the handle on days when there's just too much to do."
Welcoming our daughter into the family was such an important day in our lives. You were an invaluable resource before, during, and after the arrival of our daughter. Having someone available to answer questions, offer up suggestions, and listen to our concerns in such a caring and nonjudgemental way was comforting and allowed us to make confident and rational decisions. After returning home from the hospital Kate's expertise was still available to us and she was extremely accommodating in providing answers and recommendations.
Our main goal for the birth was for it to go as smoothly as possible. We knew that we couldn't control everything but wanted to make sure that this birthing experience was positive and our needs were being met, within reason of course. Kate absolutely helped us to achieve this by offering words of encouragement throughout the entire process, holding my hand, and providing comfort measures like cold washcloths. She even went so far as to shake it off when I accidentally elbowed her in the face :)
You have such a great knowledge of all things doula and I found your suggestions most helpful. In creating the birth plan I remember you mentioning: immediate skin to skin and delayed cord clamping. These are just things that I wouldn't have thought of and I appreciated your experience with newborn procedures and your foresight to mention these things. I also liked how you included links to articles with further information on the topic.
Your support during delivery was incredible but what stands out the most in my mind is the follow up in the weeks afterwards. The emails and texts to check in and see how things were going were comforting. I also really appreciated your homeopathic suggestion for the clogged duct. It worked! And I have had to use it more than once. But at the same time I liked how you wanted to ensure that I was also consulting my doctor and you followed up to see if the situation had remedied itself.
Thanks Kate, it was great working with you!!
"Kate is very friendly and sat with me at the hospital before I left to discuss caring for myself and my baby. I noticed that I had more milk."
"Your service was amazing. I still can't believe the turn around time and that you dropped off the pills at the hospital!"
Kate Tyo did placenta encapsulation for me and I appreciate the care and "extras" she provided during the process. Kate exceeded my expectations by providing an analysis of the anatomy and health of the placenta's health, creating a lovely print, and including "cord art" as a keepsake.
Kate also provided personalized instructions of how to take the capsules and how to adjust my dosage depending on the effect they would have on my body. Kate was professional, and proved to be qualified and respectful of part of the sacred birth experience.
"Kate is a long time friend; she is like family. So of course when we were having our little girl we sought her out for her wisdom and expertise in all things baby. Even though we were hundreds of miles away (we live in Cambridge, MA), it was as though she was right there in the room with us. We had taken a birthing class, but most of that information was not easily recalled in the heat of the moment. As questions came up, my husband called Kate to run the scenarios by her. Her responses were thoughtful, in line with our hopes for our birthing experience, and empowering. She gave us the guidance and tools we needed to advocate for ourselves. I would have flown her out for the delivery, but she was expecting a new baby herself within several weeks. Kate is extremely knowledgeable and has a huge heart for empowering women in their birthing experience. With Kate by your side, you can walk in to your birthing experience with confidence and peace. I cannot recommend her highly enough."
